Because Lost Horizon Treks and Tours is a small company that strives to provide excellent service, we take care in who we hire as our guides. The guides have the most difficult job in the tourism business and must be able to handle large responsibilities. The reputation of the company is in their hands and they can really influence the outcome of a trek or tour. The trek could be perfectly organized and every detail taken care of, but if the guide is lazy, unhelpful, or unprepared, the whole trip can go badly. Good guides are a great asset for any company and Lost Horizon is no exception. Abdul Bari Rana, founder of Lost Horizon Treks and Tours, is our senior guide. Bari is one of the most experienced guides in Northern Pakistan and definitely one of the best. He has been involved in tourism for over twenty five years. Bari is from the village of Chorit which is situated at the base of Nanga Parbat's Rupal side. Needless to say, Bari is extremely familiar with Nanga Parbat and the surrounding area. His mother language is Shina, but he is also fluent in Urdu and English and can communicate in Borushaski, Gujjari, Punjabi, Pashto, and Hindi. Bari seems to have a special talent for making things happen. Sometimes, it seems like there is no way to get something done, but within a few minutes of Bari's arrival everything is perfect.

Justin Stirrett, founder and owner of Odyssey Adventure Guides and co-owner of Lost Horizon Treks & Tours has been guiding for over 20 years all over the world. Spending part of the year guiding and climbing back in Canada and part of the year in Pakistan training and equipping the guide team to be at their best. Justin is known for being a strong all around climber. From pulling hard boulder problems, to runout trad routes, to big blue ice, to the alpine play ground he is at home on all. Justin also has years of completive climbing under his belt. In his off time he sets for climbing competitions in Canada.

Abdul Wahid Rana, younger brother of Bari, is one of our full-time guides. Wahid is one of the strongest men that you will ever see on the trail. He carries the heaviest loads, leads the way through knee-deep snow, and still has enough energy to cook dinner for everyone else with a smile on his face. Wahid is always cheerful and looking for ways to make our clients more comfortable. Wahid, like Bari, is from the village of Chorit and he knows the Nanga Parbat area extremely well. He is also the most experienced guide on Rupal Peak, one of our most adventurous treks. Wahid speaks English and is also fluent in Shina, Urdu, Gujjari, and Punjabi.

Abdul Muqeem, a trekking guide in Northern Pakistan, is the third younger brother of the renowned Abdul Bari. Known for his strength and agility, Muqeem is always the first to reach the campsite, ensuring tents are set up and food is prepared before clients arrive. Though he speaks limited English, his humor shines through when he tells Team Lost Horizons that he speaks "good English" when alone with English-speaking clients. Muqeem's quiet demeanor and efficiency make him the perfect companion for any adventure. If you're looking for a dedicated guide, Muqeem is the one to trust. 

Juma is an experienced guide works for Lost Horizon Treks and Tours, hailing from the picturesque Chorit Valley, Astore. Fluent in English, he expertly leads travelers through the stunning mountains of Northern Pakistan, including the Karakoram, Himalayas, and Hindu Kush ranges. With extensive experience navigating these challenging terrains, he provides deep insights into the region’s landscapes, culture, and history. His passion lies in creating adventurous yet safe treks, ensuring that each journey is not only thrilling but also enriching. He will help you to untouched beauty of Pakistan’s remote wilderness while fostering a connection to its rich heritage.

Abdul Baqi, son of our boss Mr. Abdul Bari, is the first person you'll connect with as you embark on your journey with us. He is responsible for planning your adventure and monitoring the trek from our head office in Gilgit. Fluent in English, Baqi is the one behind the scenes, answering all your questions and ensuring everything runs smoothly. Trekking is his passion, and he is dedicated to showcasing Pakistan in the best light, believing it to be the most hospitable country, welcoming travelers from around the world. Though he often handles operations, he frequently joins treks to Lost Horizon's Nanga Parbat, Rupal Phase trek, where he enjoys bonfires and dancing.
